British Talent! - Big Deal @wearebigdeal

My Photos by

A lovely bit of folk right here. Big Deal are a duo I came across a couple of weeks back and their romantic, simplistic but yet emotionally fulfilling (Yes, I said emotionally fulfilling!) songs have had me in a daze every since. The duo from East London made up of Alice Costelloe and KC Underwood have been making music together for a good while now, with an album under their belt titled Lights Out streamed via NME, it seems that Big Deal are on there way to living up to their name.

By looking at them you would immediately compare them to The Ting Tings and in a way ABBA (if ABBA just had one blonde girl) but no no no, there's no valid comparison here as the two's sound very much stands alone. Their music is very very blissful, its dramatic but not threatening, grabs your attention but doesn't crave it, makes you happy but doesn't make you smile, makes you sad but doesn't make you cry. Beautiful.

NEW VIDEO! Shakka - Take Our Time @IAmShakka

I was tempting not to blog this because reallllllly, it isn't exactly 'new', its about 7 days old but HEY Christmas has been a busy time and music like this is timeless so lets ignore that fact shall we....

Gosh, I could gush all day about my musically love for Shakka. The musician/songwriter and energetic performer has stolen my heart with his latest tune, Take Our Time. The song with its infusion of pop/R&B and jazz is like a cup of tea on a cold day, an ice lolly in the middle of summer, it's everything you need from a song no matter what mood. It's extremely romantic and radiates simple beauty! Props to Jamie Coxx on directing this beautiful video too.

Ahhh, a full album from Shakka would be nice! Thanks. *smiles* lol.

NEW! Project Alfie Vs Outkast - Perfect @ProjectAlfie

Waaaaahey! The Project Alfie mixtape is out now and from what I've listened to so far, this song right here really stood out. We're used to hearing Alfie with his beautifully soulful voice deliver some heart-wrenching mid-tempo ballads but this Shy-FX-esh-vibe song (produced by Charlie Holmes) is really refreshing!!

Ah I'm so happy inside. Gwan with your bad yourself Project Alfie! Make sure you download that mixtape right HERE.

British Talent - Lewis Watson @levvis_

I've been watching Lewis Watson for a while now, not literally obviously, I mean musically. I first came across a cover he did on youtube, I subscribed and I was pleasantly surprised by more of the ones he uploaded. With just his voice and his guitar Lewis puts some, I wouldn't say twists, but interesting looks on songs. He strips them back and makes them extremely simplistic must I really admire in an artist because sometimes theres just to much rif raff you know?

The 19 year old singer, songwriter recently did a track with Krept and Konan, also released his A64 and he's sitting pretty on over a million video views on his youtube channel so it looks like big things may be coming for him in the future.  Below is his cover of Kanye West, Twista And Jamie Foxx's beaaaaautiful song Slow Jamz, his making-teen-girls-scream original song Bones which I really like. With time, development and a few sessions with some songwriters to bounce off ideas, I see a new Ed Sheeran coming on......

NEW! Childish Gambino - Ima Boss Freestyle @DonaldGlover

Ohhhhhhhh, when I saw this uploaded to SB I was sooooo happy! I think Childish Gambino is a perfect addition to a new breed of rappers who look to turn the rap scene upside down and in knowing that, I knew he would rip it and I was right to expect this because dang, he went in!

He has so much passion and pizazz when he raps and lyrics that make you put a fist to your mouth and crinkle your face. You go Gambino! YOU GO!

Its Been A Year And A Day!

Oh my god WOOP! Yesterday was the year anniversary of my blog. When I started my blog I just wanted to showcase all the music that I listened to and develop my writing skills and I've done that. But also a lot of great things have come out of it that I didn't expect which I am very grateful for. Going into 2012 I shall continue to work extremely hard, listen and write about great music and hopefully discover and showcase some acts that I hope in the future will dominate the charts. Sounds easy enough? Lol.

To celebrate this great moment in this blog's history I've just gathered some of my favourite posts that you may have missed out on depending on when you started to reading this blog.....Thanks for your support and heres to another year! *Cheesy grin* :D

Introducing - 0ne Room @0neroom

So usually when I find an act I wanna write about under this caterogy I listen to they stuff, subscribe, follow, all the rest, then wait for some new information or material to come from them but I had a feeling with this person, group, thing, it wasn't going to do that anytime soon so I'll serve it up as it is.

One Room or 0ne Room are described as this'One Room was born in the Lower East Side. Everyone knows him but no one ever sees him. People say he grew up listening to static on his radio and eating mix tapes. When he was 10 he taught himself to play piano. They say he speaks every language and never sleeps. They say the music was inspired by cold winters and hot summers. They say it took him 20 years to make this music. They say it doesn't sound like anything else. They say it was made in One Room'. Hm, a bit of a mystery isn't it.

But hey, lets analysis the music not the person ah? The music definitely suits the mysterious image of the artist, described as 'Trill' on the soundcloud, the music is pretty dubbed out and doesn't give out any emotion apart from unruly lust and adulesnent confusion. Is this a future genius artist experiencing with emotion through sound or a manifestationof trouble events that has withdrawn the artist into recluse or none of the above and just some dope music? Hm.

NEW! Bei Maejor - The Truth @beimaejor

Oh dear oh dear. This is an Usher Confessions kinda thang! Here American singer/songwriter/producer Bei Maejor recites some emotionally frank lyrics in his latest track, The Truth. Depicting him sleeping with his friend's girl who then decides she wants to have a baby with him. Is this based on a true story Bei? Definitely an interesting listen.

NEW! L Marshall - Trakor (Acoustic) @LMarshallMusic

The smile on my face when I saw that this video was uploaded. :) I really like L Marshall as an artist, from what I've heard of the songs his written, his mixtape The Wait and this acoustic below, he seems like a really genuine artist who is here to shake up things and for that, I'm excited. He's an extremely talented songwriter but below he proves his singing chops in the form of his acoustic of the track he featured on with Wretch 32 titled Traktor.

I can't wait to see comes of him in 2012.

Cant wait for this mixtape, New Years Day people.

EVENT! SBTV Xmas Party

Hello! So last night I popped down to KOKO Camden to attend and do some interviews at the first Xmas Party event from the media outlet that has exploded this year, SBTV. Acts such as Cher Lloyd, Maxsta, Rizzle Kicks, Tinchy Stryder, Labrinth, Chipmunk, Wretch 32 and lots more took to the stage to ring in an amazing year of music and of course the whole industry was out in full force to show support.

In doing interviews I asked some of the artists who they wanted to kiss under the mistletoe, what they wanted for Christmas and of course, what they loved most about the whole SBTV team. Unfortunately I didn't get to see much of the performances as I was running about doing interviews and mingling but the one performance I caught in full was from Labrinth who SMASHED it! I'll definitely be going to see his tour in February. And to top off the amazing night, who but was hanging in the VVIP but rapper Eve. She was lovely to meeting and I got a sneaky picture too.

So yeah, that raps up this year's media events for me. 2011 has been amazing, lots of highs and I've learnt so much, experienced so much and I hope you've enjoyed the music on this blog all year round too but don't think I'm slowing down, I'm going to make sure that 2012 is even more epic. :)

Interviews from the night will be up soon.

NEW VIDEO! Lea-Anna - Murder @LeaAnnaUK

I've been hearing this song soooooo much recently. Well, mainly because its been playlisted on BBC 1Xtra so they always play it when I listen and with good reason, its a great tune. Imagine if this was realised around carnival time?! It would have been RINSED. But I'm glad it wasn't because I need some dancehall vibes to spice up those winter nights :|.

Props to you Lea-Anna (great name too!)

NEW! Lana Del Rey - Off To The Races

Wahey! Something from Lana Del Rey that I actually really enjoy. She's definitely the most stunning artist to emerge from 2011 but I still haven't managed to fall in love with her music yet but in the good works of Sam Cooke, a change gon come!

This latest tune titled Off To The Races is really interesting to listen to. It's fun to unravel all the lyrics and reveal the sinful story beneath. *Thumbs up and smiles*

NEW! James Blake - A Case Of You

Now this is positively stunning! James Blake never fails in encapsulate rare emotion in a simply intricate 3 to 4 minute track. This song, lyrically reminds me a lot of Amy Winehouse's I Heard Love Is Blind, the way the lyrics are so exposed is something quite beautiful.

British Talent - Captain Backfire @captainbackfire

Hello. *waves*, another day another beautiful talent from the UK to showcase. Out of all the posts I've written in the British Talent category, this guy probably has the coolest name...of course he has the singing/song-writing chops to go along with it, but his name....its cool.

I came across Captain Backfire via soundcloud last month and when a whale of Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks and Daughty sounds with a little pop twist came blurring out my speakers a cheesy smile drew on my face. Real name Robert Gilbert is bringing a lovely sunny side up atmosphere to his music with frank storytelling lyrics, a light, rough around the edges voice and the ability to play a guitar with the passion of a fat kid eating cake.

He has loads of songs on his soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/captain-backfire/) but below are a few of my special favs each demonstrate little gems of his personality. Enjoy!

It's got a nice SWV vibe, who would have thought? Calling Meek Mill's song SWV-like. Dang! Great idea. Im very very excited to hear what's next. Fierce shoes too.

So a new track from John Legend leaked on the tinternet today and to say the least, I'm excited. I mean, of course I am, its John Legend. Wahey! Some newness (yes I just made that word up!) from Archeo, you may remember this guy as I wrote a British Talent post about him a few months, if you didn't get a chance to see it check it out HERE. I'm really supporting this guy and his music, there just seems to be something fresh about him and it looks like he isnt afraid of going against the norm which I always enjoy.

So yeah, his newness comes in the form of track Glass Half Empty which....hmmmm...would you describe this as a club banger? lol. Not quite but its definitely cool to bop to, its got a little Teach Me How To Dougie funk vibe with some smoothed out riddems at the end. Whatta weird and wonderful mix.

Enjoy.

I've been watching 15 year old rapper KK do his thang for a while now and with good reason as his bars are heavy and always has mental energy in every tune.

Here is his latest net video, a remix of Cher Lloyd's Dub On The Track. I wouldn't say its 1.18 minutes of rap genius but I see a develop here of where he could go, not necessary with this tune but with his career as a whole. Yeah......watch out for KK.

NEW! DJ Fresh Ft Rita Ora - Hot Right Now (Zomboy Remix)

Anything that comes out from Rita Ora I am super keen to hear because theres been all this hype but nothing she's come out with has particular impressed me and I'm afraid thats the same for this tune right here.

It's a great song, DJ Fresh ALWAYS smashes the production and creating a party atmosphere even if its just you and your headphones but I don't feel that Rita owns the track you know. Gosh I just want her music to slap me in the face with amazement,  to punch me in the stomach with shock uno, I want her to shake my bones with her melody and uncompromisable lyrics! *sigh* I'll wait for the next tune....
Props to DJ Fresh, he always does the damn ting.

British Talent - Vince Kidd @kiddulthood

Where do I start? Like really....Vince Kidd. Ermm, is AMAZING.

I found him on youtube randomly yesterday and did my usually routine of getting mad excited around the fact that we posses such beautiful talent on this earth. I was talking about the singer/songwriter today actually and described him to someone as a less contrived Daley. Don't get me wrong, I love Daley but I find his whole image to be a bit forced whereas Vince Kidd just seems to naturally have that body and vocal swagga you know? Like, the dude seems bad ass!

And the fact that his voice is like an indulgence bundle of smooth R&B helps as well. I want to hear more from this guy, like, NOW!

I'm unsure if this is her second single or even going to be on her album but its a nice taster of what other sounds she can come out with. Love it! Its classy, mutual but playful, her vocals are so versatile. Take it away Elle....

British Talent! - Emily And The Woods @emilynthewoods

I'm not to sure why I haven't wrote about Emily And The Woods before? I've been a fan of hers for a very long time now and with good reason as her voice could make you get lost in her woods forever. Does that sound weird? 'Get lost in her woods'? It sounded ok in my head.

But yes the point I'm trying to make is that the West Londoner's (woo woo West is best!) music is something to be admired. Its a spectrum of light and soft tones with sparks of lyrical sincerity that springs vulnerability and strength at the same time. Having at the age of 20 recorded some songs with Laura Marling which graced MySpace and since gone on the capture audiences while gigging around the country, Emily is currently on every ones lips as a real talent so it doesn't look like I'm the only one to be singing Emily's praises.

Below are some of my favourite tracks of hers that are on the internet but her 4 track debut EP is out nooooooooooooooow.

I find the instrumental in this to be quite beautiful. Their signature high pitched vocals over the piano, soft drums, saxophones and odd techno beats sounds really complex anddddddd - hm - whats the word.....full. Its a full song! All the components are there and I feel fully satisfied. Thank you Miike Snow, thank you.

British Talent! - Ren Harvieu @renharvieu

So I got sent this girl's track today and when I listened was slightly memorised.

20 year old, Lancaster born Ren Harvieu with her diamond voice really knocked the wind out of my sails. Whenever I press play to a track in which I'm not familiar with the artist my ears are always open to new sounds and musical treats and thats exactly what I got. Its not necessary a new sound but its one that is so delicate that like an antique object covered in dust, once you wipe away that dust (I.e - Press play) you forgot how old it is (or sounds) and just admire its beauty.
Currently on BBC's Sound of 2012 list, Ren Harvieu is sure to be making sweet melodic, intriguing, angelic waves throughout the year. Shear beauty.

Introducing - Rebecca & Fiona @RebeccaFiona

Rebecca And Fiona. Imaginative names I know but who needs all that riff raff when you look this cool and your music sounds like your swimming underwater in a trance disco.

Yes these ladies from Stockholm, Sweden with their platform shoes' are creating a sound which I can only describe as....well...its music that isn't so much about the vocals, it isn't really about the lyrics, it isnt really about the production. It's about all those elements put together to create a sound that I described previously as an underwater trance disco but now, as I'm listening right now, I'll describe it as a hot air balloon gas tank vibration with trance pop melodies. That doesn't make any sense I know. But ethier does this music. Hmmm, I'm enjoying the number of thoughts I have about it and also the lack of thought that goes into enjoying it. Hmmm indeed.

The two are DJs and producers who have supported Robyn on tour. So far they're pretty successful in Sweden and many places across Europe. The tunes below are taken from their first album titled 'I Love You Man' and is a heavy heavy mix of what I've been trying to describe above.

In similar terms, its beautiful music. Listen.

British Talent! - Murray James @MurrayJames

Wahey, its been a while, well, like 2 weeks since I last wrote a British Talent post. Well hey, I dont give these out willy-nilly you know. My latest showcasing of what is amazing in British music right now comes courtesy of Sony signed, drowned in reggae/soul, Milford On Sea bred 21-year-old singer/songwriter Murray James.

Is it me or does Murray James make having a bad sore throat sound amazing?!!!! I haven't heard a voice like this in a long long while. Normally at this stage I would describe it as 'refreshing' - you know, because its new and unlike others but naaaa this isn't 'refreshing'. Itsss...itsss....antic? VINTAGE! Yes. Vintage. It's a beautiful, expensive, vintage voice which raspy tones scratch and hug your ear drums at the same time.

He's  due to release some material in autumn 2011 but already dubbed by Q Magazine as 'The Next Big Thing', it looks like James has a comfortable 'waiting in the wings' seat for him in the music biz. I'm excited for him to fill it.

Introducing - Iggy Azalea @iggyazalea

Wooza mayn. See when I find artists like this, this is why I get some excited about music!!! 21 year old Australia born, USA bred female rapper Iggy Azalea is one bad ass bitch. Yeah I say it!

Iggy, real name Amethyst, moved to Miami when she was 16 and has been rapping since she was 14. I would say her music is, no-holds-barred, hip hop marinated, slap you in the face hardcore rap. But not only is her music something to shout about but he look is definitely something that is worth talking about. Long ice blonde hair, big earrings, neon, metallic, everything that you think wouldn't go together, but its strangely does! Think Nicki Minaj mixed with Gwen Stefani. So could this be the full package of a new hit female rapper?

I believe so. She's currently unsigned but managed by George Richardson and Neil Jacobson from Interscope in the US sooooo...yeah...watch this space. You can download her mixtape Ignorant Art right here - http://www.iggyazalea.com/

Here she covers most definitely one of my favourite songs of the year Maverick Sabre's I Need and she does it beautifully. Her voice is what I would call fulfilling, its rich, thick and has many many layers. I want to hear more. Now. Now!

Yes Flo! Probably one of my favourite songs on Drake's Take Care album cleverly titled Take Care is now covered by someone who I think should re-record the UK's national anthem because her voice is so regal, Florence And The Machine.

Normally with covers its like who did it better? Especially with the JoJo and Drake Marvins Room cover but this cannot be compared like that. They both have beautifully different styles and in their own right are stunning musical gifts. Yes gifts. Lavely.

NEW ARTIST! Vox Halo Ft La Dolla - Criminal @LaDollaSays

Wow weeee, doesn't this make you want to slap yourself silly with happiness. After hearing this song I actually want to run around and turn everything into colourful skittles like that advert. And what a top advert it is!

This is La Dolla, the pop/dance act who is currently signed to EMI Virgin/Positiva. As you can see, she is like a ball of summer fruits and thats what this song offers, lots of sugar filled goodness, but its fruit so its ok. See this song could EASIER be your gulity pleasure but also a tune you're not afraid to admit with your really close friends that you loooooove. The chorus is extremely catchy, La Dolla looks amazing and the versus arrrreeee - ok.

It's definitely a cool track but I shall not settle for cool. Or good. Or sugar filled goodness. I want teeth-rotting, addictive pop. I look forward to hearing more.

NEW! Lyndriette - Addicted @RealLyndriette

So apparently this North Carolina chick is rumored to be joining the Pussycat Dolls. I didn't even know that was still going on! Ah well, before we get sucked in by the barely-there outfits and annoyingly catchy tunes lets enjoy Lyndriette's Independence as an artist.

This mid-tempo soul-pop anthem titled Addicted is taken from Lyndriette's EP Proclamation. The thickness of her voice is sooooo beautiful. I want to hear more. Now! Oh...shes like Bridge Kelly but not as forced. (I love Bridget Kelly but I don't think this bad girl image is really her. Do you?) Anywho. Press play. :)

NEW! Terri Walker - He Loves Me @TheRealMzWalker

Wow this is beautiful. I was aware of Terri Walker but didn't really get into her music until I heard her on the Donaeo tune When Angels Sing which I continue to rinse everyday of the week.

From what I've heard of her she is clearly a wonderful talent and this track in every single way demonstrates that. I'm guessing its a Donaeo production was really matchs her butter-like sweet-to-the-tooth vocals. Sexy soulful house. I'd like an album of this please. Thank you.

REMIX! Rihanna - We Found Love (Funkystepz Remix)

Funkystepz always does da ting! (I dont know why I talk like this on my blog - I never speak like this in real life - how odd - maybe its my self-conscious). Anywho, nice funky remix here, of course what else would it be.

It's not spell binding but it puts a nice twist on things.
