British Talent! - Murray James @MurrayJames

Wahey, its been a while, well, like 2 weeks since I last wrote a British Talent post. Well hey, I dont give these out willy-nilly you know. My latest showcasing of what is amazing in British music right now comes courtesy of Sony signed, drowned in reggae/soul, Milford On Sea bred 21-year-old singer/songwriter Murray James.

Is it me or does Murray James make having a bad sore throat sound amazing?!!!! I haven't heard a voice like this in a long long while. Normally at this stage I would describe it as 'refreshing' - you know, because its new and unlike others but naaaa this isn't 'refreshing'. Itsss...itsss....antic? VINTAGE! Yes. Vintage. It's a beautiful, expensive, vintage voice which raspy tones scratch and hug your ear drums at the same time.

He's  due to release some material in autumn 2011 but already dubbed by Q Magazine as 'The Next Big Thing', it looks like James has a comfortable 'waiting in the wings' seat for him in the music biz. I'm excited for him to fill it.

REMIX! Delilah - Love You So (Lenzman Remix)

Oh Delilah you can do no wrong.

2012 is going to be MASSIVE for her! This Lenzman Remix of his late single Love You So is fire. Full of dirty drum and bass that makes you want to crash your car while Delilah sings you to heaven. Lavely.

*Sigh*. These Mike Hough teasers. Though they are great and wonderful to listen to, that's what they are, teasers - if you didnt get that already - so its in many ways very unfulfilling. I'd like a single, and a video please. Thanks.

Here's his latest teaser in the form of soul/pop tune Better. His voice has so many tones joined into one. Beautiful.

Introducing - Iggy Azalea @iggyazalea

Wooza mayn. See when I find artists like this, this is why I get some excited about music!!! 21 year old Australia born, USA bred female rapper Iggy Azalea is one bad ass bitch. Yeah I say it!

Iggy, real name Amethyst, moved to Miami when she was 16 and has been rapping since she was 14. I would say her music is, no-holds-barred, hip hop marinated, slap you in the face hardcore rap. But not only is her music something to shout about but he look is definitely something that is worth talking about. Long ice blonde hair, big earrings, neon, metallic, everything that you think wouldn't go together, but its strangely does! Think Nicki Minaj mixed with Gwen Stefani. So could this be the full package of a new hit female rapper?

I believe so. She's currently unsigned but managed by George Richardson and Neil Jacobson from Interscope in the US sooooo...yeah...watch this space. You can download her mixtape Ignorant Art right here - http://www.iggyazalea.com/

COVER! Ky Oshi - I Need (Maverick Sabre Cover) @KyOshi

Back in August I wrote anout Ky Oshi after listening to her cover of Amy Winehouse's Love Is A Losing Game. Since then shes gone onto be featured on MTV as a One To Watch I believe, so it looks like big tings a gwarn for her in the future.

Here she covers most definitely one of my favourite songs of the year Maverick Sabre's I Need and she does it beautifully. Her voice is what I would call fulfilling, its rich, thick and has many many layers. I want to hear more. Now. Now!

NEW! Amy Winehouse - Halftime

The fact that she's still not with me, still baffles me. But as we unfortuately can't enjoy her presence, we can still enjoy her musically presence.

This is another one of her tracks from her third album due for release in December. The song titled Halftime is something Amy became to be perfect at, making soulful modern tracks that you can get lost in. When I write about her I don't really know what I say so I'll just stop and leave it with - press play and enjoy.

COVER! Florence And The Machine - Take Care (Drake Cover)

Yes Flo! Probably one of my favourite songs on Drake's Take Care album cleverly titled Take Care is now covered by someone who I think should re-record the UK's national anthem because her voice is so regal, Florence And The Machine.

Normally with covers its like who did it better? Especially with the JoJo and Drake Marvins Room cover but this cannot be compared like that. They both have beautifully different styles and in their own right are stunning musical gifts. Yes gifts. Lavely.

NEW ARTIST! Vox Halo Ft La Dolla - Criminal @LaDollaSays

Wow weeee, doesn't this make you want to slap yourself silly with happiness. After hearing this song I actually want to run around and turn everything into colourful skittles like that advert. And what a top advert it is!

This is La Dolla, the pop/dance act who is currently signed to EMI Virgin/Positiva. As you can see, she is like a ball of summer fruits and thats what this song offers, lots of sugar filled goodness, but its fruit so its ok. See this song could EASIER be your gulity pleasure but also a tune you're not afraid to admit with your really close friends that you loooooove. The chorus is extremely catchy, La Dolla looks amazing and the versus arrrreeee - ok.

It's definitely a cool track but I shall not settle for cool. Or good. Or sugar filled goodness. I want teeth-rotting, addictive pop. I look forward to hearing more.

NEW! Lyndriette - Addicted @RealLyndriette

So apparently this North Carolina chick is rumored to be joining the Pussycat Dolls. I didn't even know that was still going on! Ah well, before we get sucked in by the barely-there outfits and annoyingly catchy tunes lets enjoy Lyndriette's Independence as an artist.

This mid-tempo soul-pop anthem titled Addicted is taken from Lyndriette's EP Proclamation. The thickness of her voice is sooooo beautiful. I want to hear more. Now! Oh...shes like Bridge Kelly but not as forced. (I love Bridget Kelly but I don't think this bad girl image is really her. Do you?) Anywho. Press play. :)

NEW! Terri Walker - He Loves Me @TheRealMzWalker

Wow this is beautiful. I was aware of Terri Walker but didn't really get into her music until I heard her on the Donaeo tune When Angels Sing which I continue to rinse everyday of the week.

From what I've heard of her she is clearly a wonderful talent and this track in every single way demonstrates that. I'm guessing its a Donaeo production was really matchs her butter-like sweet-to-the-tooth vocals. Sexy soulful house. I'd like an album of this please. Thank you.

Funkystepz always does da ting! (I dont know why I talk like this on my blog - I never speak like this in real life - how odd - maybe its my self-conscious). Anywho, nice funky remix here, of course what else would it be.

It's not spell binding but it puts a nice twist on things.

NEW VIDEO! Ghetts ft GoldieLocks - First Class @TheRealGhetts

I do like Ghetts. He's never boring, like, never! Like with his latest tune. He's switched it up.

His latest sounds and visuals featuring Goldielocks titled First Class is not slow, its relaxed. It's a lovely tempo that is for every mood - its versatile music. Refreshing. I can't say I'd like to hear another song like this, its more of those tunes you look back and say 'YO! Remember when Ghetts made tat relllaxxxeeddd tune! Yes. Dat was de ting!' - Yep, you say it exactly like that.

This song screams swagga.

NEW! Russo - Lights Are Off Mixtape

I remember when I first wrote about Russo, well remember vaguely, I think I mostly talked about her cool she seems and probably is. Her music, also cool, but not as cool as HER or what I think she would be like. The single/tracks released of her so far including You've Changed Me and Laters Im Off are, ookkkkkk but nothing really groundbreaking.

But am I right in thinking shes left all of her best tracks to just be placed on her new mixtape Lights Are Off? Yes. I believe so. See, in the tracks shes released so far I believe her cool-laid-back-swagga seems quite forced. Whereas on the tracks on her mixtape, they're more rough around the edges.

Her singles seem like she's worked into a studio with a producer and said 'yeah lets make a hit!' whereas her mixtape tracks seems like ones shes done over the years and much more scrappy and organic. Which definitely definitely makes for a great mixtape! Singles or not singles, Russo is sounding promising.

Karma - 8/10

Fool - 7/10

Please Dont Gas Me - 6/10

The Internet - "Love Song -1"

Odd Future are smashing it right now and the duo The Internet are looking to be my new favourite out of the clan. I LOVE this song. Here the DJ/Producer Syd The Kid steps away from the switchboard and mac computer to sing a few light, melodic lyrics on new track, Love Song.

It's so simplistic. I love that The Internet don't over complicate things, just pure, smooth music.

NEW! Elle Varner - Refill @ellevarner

After the success of her first tune Only Wanna Give It To, Elle Varner is riding high right now straight into a bright future in this crazy music biz. Boy does she make some excellent music.

Here's her latest track titled Refill written by Elle herself. What I like most about this song is that it has all the components to make a really annoying song, the high pitched 'Refill', the kind of, bagpipes in the background? lol. It's a piano I believe but in my ears it definitely sounds a bit like bagpipes and as well, the not really sing-a-along-lyrics. But even with all this, its a really good tune! It all binds together great and highlights the production, the lyrics and her voice all at the same time.

I'm excited for the mixtape and album. *Smiles*.

NEW! Foxes - Youth @iamfoxes

Sooo this is COOL. What I've heard of Foxes so far has seemed quite promising. I first came across her via her Station Session performance when she was 'Loui Rose' but as you prepare for pop domination you gotta switch it up a bit. Foxes is much cooler.

But yeah, this song is just cool. Only really kick starts for me about a minute in but I like her vocal swagga, kinda rough around the edges. The production is really refreshing too. *Thumbs up*.

FINALLY this is here. Loooooove Davinche, I'm a super super fan and I can't wait for the album 'Open Minded'. I was lucky enough to head down to the video shoot for this actually in some swanky pad in London which was very cool.
The only way I could describe this song is beast! It's so...meaty. Yes, meaty. It fills you up with musically gulliness. It gives you a lot, from of course the monster production, punching vocals from Sophie Sof and, wait, is that? Nooooo. It is you know. Some nice bars from Davinche. Sicka. Multi-talented men, gotta love that.

British Talent - Last Japan @lastjapan

Yoooooooooooooooooooo, where did this come from?!!! Why have I never heard of this guy until today!?? Woo he is sick.

I came across Last Japan today and have been playing his bassline, drum & bass, dubstep, funky, just general vibzy beats and remixes ever since. Last Japan AKA Marco Giuliani is a 21 year old producer/DJ from London, fresh out of university and already at such a young age he has seemed to have mastered the perfect recipe to make some gully tunes. He's had some mass airplay from Radio 1 in the form of his track 'Big Man' back in 2010 and is currently now working on his debut album.

I mean there was so many good tracks on his soundcloud that I found it hard to pick just a few. I read some interviews with him and this line from one of his interviews seems to sum up best how I describe my feeling towards his music - 'If my music was a meal, it would be… the first meal you have after you haven’t eaten in two days'.

When I blogged about him before I wrote about the acoustic of this track and I cant say I'm as excited about the full track with a video now. It's kind of.....weak. It's just nice! And nice is sort of boring. Dang. Well I still see masses of potential, I shall stay tuned for more.

British Talent! - Mahalia

Never have I written a British Talent post and had such little information on the person I'm writing it about. Talk about mystery. Ah well, I guess I'll have to make do. All I know out this beautiful singer is her name is Mahalia, I've heard shes about 13 and that she a hot topic for labels around the country. And with good reason as her voice is definitely something to shout about.

Her vocal is so innocent its really quite shocking, I didn't expect it. The way she sings, its extremely fragile and delicate. I love it. Not sure if she wrote the songs but with a full band, lots of piano melodies and maybe even a harp, she could be one huge problemo. I look forward to having her album in my playlist on 5 years.

NEW! Phlo Finister - Crown Gold EP @PhloFinister

I've been blogging a lot about Phlo Finister lately. First in an Introducing post, then about her new track Shades and now the 19 year old US singer has released an EP titled Crown Gold. Lavely.

This EP has a lot to offer. All the songs are keeping in the same tone of a moody, sultry vibe of love and relationships but each one has a different, I guess, approach and concept. Obviously not every song is going to be about the same thing but the songs are similar and individual at the same time. For some artists I find this really annoying, I love lots of versatility but I see how in Phlo Finister's case, it works. Sticking to your style and creating within that. Like The Weeknd.

Top EP. My Picks: Riders On The Storm, Shades and Bang Bang.

NEW VIDEO! Wretch 32 Ft Etta Bond - Forgiveness @Wretch32 @EttaBond

Woooow, the video is here! I've blogged about this track in many different forms, the remix, the jam session for SBTV, the actual tune, and now here's the video! Loving this song. The honesty is so beautiful and real and the video completely suits that.

Thats what I really admire about Wretch 32's music, he doesn't hide behind anything, like the line 'how can my son call me dad when I missed the parents evening?'. That's so literal, he could have easily sugar coated that with a funky metaphor but theres no need to with Wretch 32. No gimmicks, no beating around the bush, straight-honest-passionate music. *Etta Bond voice* Hey hey hey hey uh uha!

NEW! JON MCXRO - Give It Up/Pop Music/Mercy @jonmcxro

I've completely forgotten how I came across Jon Mcxro, I think was it just a random youtube find but I'm in luck as a few days after I subscribed to their youtube channel, they released an album! Great timing.

What I really like about the four artists that make up Jon Mcxro - producers Jon Mcxro, Jon Street, RayRo, Jerm Beats and rapper Three from Los Angeles (who are actually the producers Stereotypes who produced hits for Far Eats Movement, Mary J Blige and lots more) - are I guess the simplicity of their tracks.

They're easy to follow, cool to bop to anytime of the day but its not just transparent nonsense. From their album The Fifth Of Never, here are three of the tracks that really caught my attention. Lyrics-wise and pure and simple vibe-ness. That's not a word but it should be, vibe-ness! Pop Music is particularly vibey.

Soooo, yeah, remember in my previous post about Tanya where I wrote 'I wish she was in a group'...well I take it back, I take it back, I take it BACK. Hey, I can admit when I'm wrong. :)

I wasn't to convinced about this track the first few times I heard it but with the visual I have a whole new look on it. It's much more interesting and it really highlights the melodies with the piano, and just in general, though its not a big budget video, it gets the whole message of the song across more. Its made the song come to life I believe. Its weird how videos can do that but its worked. This is great! A strong debut.

Cant wait to hear more.

With a full band and lots and lots of horns, she could potential be trouble. (I cant say the faces she makes while singing as the MOST attractive but lets not be superficial and rival in her musically beauty. Lavely!)

British Talent! - Jody Brock @JodyBrock

With the mystery and coolness of James Blake and soulful rich voice worthy of any downtown jazz club, Jody Brock is a young singer I see with bags of potential. I first came across him via soundcloud a few days ago and have had his cover of Blackstreet's No Diggity on repeat ever since. I LOVE his voice. It's so rich, it has so many layers but keeps with the same tone.

His original song below, Light A Fire isn't the greatest but I see mad potential in his voice and where it could take him. I look forward to hearing what the future holds for him. In the mean time, I'll repeat this No Diggity cover for the 23rd time.

NEW VIDEO! The Internet - Cocaine

I first came across The Internet (Syd The Kyd and Matt Martian) with their track 'They Say' which is simpling beautiful and thus the beautiful-ness continues into their new tune Cocaine. If this tune was a picture it would be a line of white then red flowing into rainbow then black. The innocence of the girls in the white then the love and affection in the red going into the rainbow - the haze of the cocaine then the deepest colour of black as the girl just dumps her friend out the car!!! Now that is out of order.

Ethier way, an all round great track and video! In the beginning the track is innocent, fragile and soft, the topic of cocaine doesn't even cross your mind but the change into rap suits the mood and subject and you dont even realise that the song is one big conversation. A joy to listen to!

REMIX! Estelle - Back To Love (Mikey J Remix)

This is the first time I've heard Estelle's new track. I don't know why I didn't take a listen earlier, maybe its my resentment towards her because of her move to America. Well, it is actually, I was full of resentment. Why did you have to leave us Estelle? Why? But I understand, America has opened up a lot of doors for her and I'm sure it has allowed her to grow and flurish. *wipes shoulders* Resentment gone.

This is great isn't it!? A great great tune and the remix is really cool to. Not dancefloor worthy but head-bop-able. And I must say, Estelle, you've never sounded better.
